Prayer Beads – Mala Making Workshop
A Japa Mala (Hindu or Buddhist prayer beads) is a traditional tool used during japa, a spiritual practice using repetition of vibrational Sanskrit words. A japa mala is used to count the number of repetitions a practitioner has spoken of a given mantra (chant). Mantra meditation has been used since circa 8th century B.C.E. to aid in spiritual growth and reduce karma in one’s life. More than two-thirds of the world uses some form of prayer beads (rosary beads, worry beads, etc) for spiritual purposes, and this practice is rumored to have influenced many of the world’s religions.
During this workshop, you will learn: - The anatomy of a japa mala - How to properly chant Sanskrit mantras - Benefits of mantra meditation - A few mantras for different karmic ailments - How to begin your own personal disciplined japa practice You will also be given the supplies and shown how to make your very own mala so you can go home and start your discipline as soon as you want!
